Dungeon

The house had what we called the "dungeon". It was a place that no one ever wanted to go down in. There was one light down there but it never worked for us. There was also another light above the stairs but it didn't do any good while down in the hole. It barely let us see on top. The stairs was not your typical stairs either. It was a wooden ladder nailed into the opening that went straight down with no slope like normal stairs or even a regular ladder. The roof was made with 10x6 boards that had been eaten by termites. We kept our food storage down there with toilet paper, paper towels and paper goods. One of us (generally me) would crawl down with a flash light and then someone on top would lower the goods to me to put away. We hated it!

In the end we decided to keep the dungeon through our construction.  We framed in a wall so that we could attach cabinet shelfs to it for storage.

After we had the wall in we began working on the stairs..... real stairs!

This is our last project we need the saw in the house for. So excited to get it out.

Absolutely amazing to see real stairs!

When the stairs were done we sheet rocked the wall.

And then sheet rocked the opposite side too.

One day we will have shelfs on this wall.   So awesome to see our dungeon turning into what we will call a fruit room or downstairs pantry. Hoping we can loose the dungeon name. Next step is to lay tile, paint and then install our light fixtures down there.

Insulation Felt

We have been busy!
We are trying to get ready for insulation. The girls and I have been felting away.

Emily is a great help. Loves using the staple gun.

Her and I got the dining room done while Maddie and I got the office done.

Before we began felting we sheet rocked the ceiling and one wall.

Looking good!
We are about ready.

We've had some long days and we are tired.

Framing

It seems like we didn't get much done during the month of October. We took our family on vacation for a whole week to Florida where we all enjoyed a much needed break! It was great spending the week in different vacation rentals that were NOT under construction. When we got home we made the goal to finish all the framing so we can get the dang saw out of my kitchen. Every time we use it I spend day's having to sweep up the dust that gets all over my kitchen.

One evening we framed in the box that the swamp cooler will sit behind and blow through.

We also framed in the master bath shower area.

When the framing was done in the bathroom we were able to install the can lights in the master closet and bathroom.

I have more light! I don't think I will ever take for granted modern electricity again.

Master Shower

People keep asking what's left on the house?  The upstairs is 100% complete. Yay!! There are 3 things left in the kitchen, 1) Back splas...
