One Saturday morning it was decided that we needed to start taking down some interior walls. We started with the most annoying wall in the house! The one you see when you first walk in. The first thing we did was start taking out the old ugly, painted fireplace that hasn't been used in years!
The fireplace came apart brick, by brick, by little crumpled brick. The brick is so old that if you hit it
too hard it just crumbles in your hands!
The hardest part was the dang hearth it was sitting on. It was almost straight concrete!
We found a skeleton of a mouse and it's home. It had crumpled newspaper, carpet and sorts of odds and ends in it. It got scooped up and thrown away before I could get my camera out. Taking this old thing out left a wonderful whole in my ceiling that we ended up covering up with some plywood.
After taking out the fireplace we then worked on the little coat closet that was to it's side. Once again it took all day long!!! With the pantry attached behind this wall we decided to wait another day to remove the whole wall. We've got to figure out where to put all our food first!
